Azerbaijan Bakcell got 3G license

Azerbaijan mobile operator Bakcell has been awarded a license for provision of 3G mobile communications services. The decision was taken at the board meeting of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies on November 2. Bakcell’s network is completely ready for provision of services in 3G standard. Therefore, as soon as the relevant frequencies by the State Frequency Committee are allocated, there will be no more delay for “Bakcell” to start providing 3G services to customers.
Bakcell announces that with the launch of 3G, customers will be provided with the latest mobile data and internet services, and the development of digital infrastructure of Azerbaijan will be greatly supported. Bakcell has the largest base-station network, which exceeds 2 500 sites all around the country. Massive investments were spent for network renovation works and these works were implemented in a very effective way. As a result, there is necessary software support developed for provision of 3G services and the base-station replacement process was successfully completed. Bakcell is confidently stating that it is completely ready for providing the services in third generation standards.
Popularization of 3G services in Azerbaijan will stimulate the next stage of development of the wireless communications market of the country, namely the MOBILE INTERNET. Even now, a major part of consumers prefer using portable devices in order to access the internet. Mobile internet usage is set to sky-rocket as new and better services come to market. Bakcell believes that the popularization of 3G services will be a powerful incentive for the development of the whole ICT sector, increase of the competition in this area and the progress of the local market in general.
