Russian MegaFon’s Roaming Prices in Europe Are 9 Times Less Now

Since December 15, MegaFon will migrate to new basic tariffs of international roaming in Europe, including European part of CIS and Turkey. The operator has introduced a single “Eurotariff” for the Russian users of any rate plan – 6 and 16 RUR per minute depending on call destination. Data and SMS tariffs in roaming have also seen radical cuts.
These changes in roaming tariffs became the most significant over the recent several years:
— Incoming call price has dropped to 6 RUR per minute (it used to be 56 RUR/min, more than 9 times less now);
— Outgoing call to Russia and within the country of stay has fallen to 16 RUR per minute (previously 86 RUR/min., more than 5 times less);
— Mobile Internet price has plummeted to 50 RUR per Mb (used to be from 110 up to 440 RUR/Mb);
— Outgoing SMS in roaming is 6 RUR (compared to 19 RUR before).
The Eurotariff will be effective in Europe states and in the European part of CIS. They include Austria, Andorra, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Vatican, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Greenland, Greece, Denmark, Ireland, Island, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San-Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Finland, France, Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, — 44 countries in total. The Eurotariff does not require any actions from MegaFon’s subscribers, it will become automatically in effect when subscribers register in operator networks of the above countries. And the customers always have an opportunity to activate some additional tariff options, and with that their roaming expenses will be cut even further. Vacation Online is an example of such option (mobile Internet abroad at home price — 7 RUR per Megabyte).
Introduction of the single Eurotariff is part of the comprehensive program that has the aim to make roaming services most affordable and understandable for the Russian population.
Over the recent years, MegaFon has gradually reduced roaming prices, which was clearly reflected in level of customer demand. In August 2011, the record-high demand was registered – over one million MegaFon’s customers used the services of international roaming.
